Forbidden Software
Software that has no academic or administrative purpose or poses a danger to computers or the network may not be installed on any computer attached to the Simmons network. Most people install such software unintentionally. The Help Desk does what it can to remove and clean up after forbidden software on Simmons-owned computers, but in some cases the only course of action is to wipe the hard drive by re-imaging the computer.
Every Simmons-owned computer runs antivirus software that automatically downloads virus definition files and scans incoming documents regularly; if you worry your computer is not adequately protected, please contact the Help
Desk. Technology distributes operating system updates to every Simmons-owned Windows 2000 or XP computer. In rare cases there may be a legitimate academic or administrative need to run forbidden software; please obtain written permission from the Executive Director of Technology.
