Non-Standard Operating Systems

In rare cases, Simmons faculty or staff may require an operating system other than one of the Simmons standards. Before installing an operating system on a Simmons computer, or purchasing a computer that comes with an operating system not listed in section 1, you must obtain written permission from the Executive Director of Technology. Written permission is required for each piece of hardware. Technology does not support operating systems outside of those listed as Simmons standards (section 1) other than to protect the network and other users.

If you support an application running on a once standard but no longer supported operating system, you have a commitment to abandon that software or upgrade it when the Simmons standard changes.

Other Operating Systems that may be required on campus: permission required Operating Systems to avoid
Red Hat Linux, Solaris, Windows 2000 server, Windows 2003 server OS2, Windows NT, Windows ME, other Linux and UNIX variants
