How Technology staff can help you
Technology at Simmons College works in partnership with you to ensure your successful use of technology. Our team at the SOM, supports your use of technology in a variety of ways.
Helping hand in the Computer Lab
At times throughout the day, Technology Desk staff are available to assist you with software questions, printing, and borrowing equipment. The hours we can be found in the lab are:
- Monday-Thursday: 7:30-9:30 am, 11 am - 1 pm, 4-6:30 pm
- Friday: 7:30-9:30 am, 11 am - 1 pm
- Saturday: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
If there is no one at the desk during these times, we are likely checking a room or setting up media equipment for an event, and will be back shortly.
Helping you with your personal-owned computer
For help with your computer, we offer:
- tips on the Technology Help Desk web site,
- free antivirus software: visit Disinfect and Protect: Free antivirus and other tools for safe computing
- Self-Help Clinics. Bring your laptop or computer to a clinic and receive guidance from a pro! Every other Tuesday, 1-3 pm, Technology staff will conduct Self Help Clinics in the SOM Computer Lab. Look for signs in the Lab for the exact dates, and call the Help Desk (617-521-2222, option 8) to register.
For information about how (and where) to access the Simmons wireless network, see our wireless page.
Testing technology and setting up for your classes/events:
Before your class or event, Technology staff set up for and test the equipment to ensure the technology is fully functional. If we discover that the technology is not working properly, we will provide an alternative for your class. See Classrooms and Event spaces at the SOM for a list of the built-in technology and to links to request forms.
You can help us ensure your class or event is a success by scheduling an appointment with the User Services Support Specialist to go over your technology needs.
Fixing the technology in your office
Technology staff provide daily technical support at the SOM. While you may see us in the Computer Lab or in the corridors, in order for us to provide you with the best support we can, while tending to other user's needs, including supporting classes, we ask you to report technical issues directly to the Technology Help Desk. See Technology Support: Six Ways to Get Help for more information and to report a problem using our online form.
