General Access Computing and Labs
General Access Computing
Throughout campus you will find computer Express Web Stations and many locations with wired and wireless network access. There are computers with software you need to complete your coursework in general access computing spaces such as the Library's Information Commons, at the School of Management, and, if you live on the residence campus, several of the residence halls.

Labs
Five classrooms on the main campus are outfitted as labs with computers for every student, and several graduate schools and undergraduate departments operate their own computer labs for special work related to their disciplines.

Computer Classrooms
Simmons has created an environment where every teaching space is potentially a technology-enabled space. In addition to "standard" classrooms and event spaces, there are Technology Computer Labs and Departmental Labs with computers for students and instructors. To schedule any of these spaces, please contact the Registrar's Office (617-521-2111).

Departmental Computer Labs
Several academic departments maintain their own computer labs. These labs are primarily for students within the particular major and contain discipline specific programs and peripherals students need to be successful to complete their coursework. Check with your academic program to see if a specialized lab is available to you to complete your coursework.
Express Web Stations
Simmons provides Express Web Stations throughout the campus for students to quickly check email or Simmons eLearning. These stations are open to the public (no login is required), but are equipped only with web browsing software and a few applications that support browsing and Simmons eLearning.
Information Commons
The Libraries and Technology work together to provide students with an Information Commons: conveniently adjacent computers, study spaces, resources, group study rooms (some with built-in technology), and expertise that students need to be academically successful. There are three service points to help students in the Information Commons: the Library Access Desk circulates books and reserve materials, the Library Reference Desk provides research assistance and help finding and evaluating information, and the Technology Desk provides technical assistance and help using hardware and software. You may borrow wireless laptops from the Technology Desk.
Where to Borrow and Use Multimedia Material
All Simmons multimedia material available for use by students and faculty is described in the Library Catalog. The general collection is housed in the Palace Road Building: visit Media Services in P110. All reserve audiovisual material is available through Media Services until September 20 when the collection moves back to the Language Lab on the 3rd floor of the Main Campus Building. The Language Lab collection is currently in the Palace Road Building as well, and returns to the Language Lab on September 20. The Language Lab is where students and others may use audiotapes, videotapes, and DVDs as well as watch programs playing through the Media Retrieval System (MRS).
Wireless
The wireless network is available in the College Center (e.g. Java City) and Conference Center in the Main Campus Building, throughout the Palace Road and Library buildings, and in the Mockler building and Oval Dining Room at the School of Management. As you move from room to room, your computer will seamlessly reconnect to the nearest wireless access point to receive the strongest signal possible. Additionally, you may receive an acceptable signal in areas adjacent to wireless access zones.
