Fine Policy
Simmons has a fine policy for late and incomplete technology equipment returns.
The loan period for most equipment is 7 days; equipment is due at 3 pm on the 7th day. Any equipment that is returned without all of its accessories or ancillary parts will be considered late until such time as the missing pieces are returned.
A $20 a day fine per item will accrue. After 30 days, if the equipment is not returned, it is assumed that the equipment is lost, and so the fine is raised to the replacement cost. Fines are paid at the Media Services counter (P108). There are several methods of payment: cash, Fenway Card, or personal check (made out to Simmons College). Please note that if you pay using cash, you will need to process your payment through Media Services and the Cashier's Desk (W207). Credit cards are not accepted.
- Students
After 30 days, if a student does not respond to the fine process by returning equipment and paying the fine, a hearing will be scheduled with the Simmons College Honor Board. - Faculty and Staff
After 30 days, if a faculty or staff member does not respond to the fine process by returning equipment and paying the fine, a letter detailing the late or incomplete equipment return will be sent to her or his Departmental Chair/Head.
Notes to members of the Simmons Community:
- Do not accept equipment unless you are sure that it is in working order and all of the pieces you have signed for are present.
- When you return equipment, please be sure the Media Services staff member has checked in all of the component items before you leave the counter. Return receipts are available upon request.
