How to Get Help
Here are some of the places where you can go, call or email to get help with technology at Simmons
- Help Desk (phone, email, in person)
- Information Commons (in person)
- Pottruck Technology Resource Center (in person training)
- Media Services (in person: borrow media and equipment)
Help Desk
Check the Help Desk's Tips & Documentation pages, where you will find tips about email, the Mac and Windows operating systems, safe computing, personal web publishing, and much more.
Students with technology questions (including about residence campus phone and cable television issues) should call the Help Desk at 617-521-2222 or send the Help Desk email at helpdesk@simmons.edu. During the academic year, Help Desk assistance is available Monday-Friday: 8:30 am - 7:30 pm; Saturday: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm; Sunday: 11 am - 7 pm.
The Help Desk solves most inquiries and issues over the phone. If the issue cannot be resolved over the phone, the student may attend an open clinic (see the current schedule) or schedule an appointment to meet with a Help Desk technician on-campus for hands-on assistance. A student may bring in a laptop, workstation, and other peripherals to an open clinic or to an appointment so that Help Desk technicians can provide step-by-step guidance as described within this document. However, to protect the manufacturer's warranty, as a general rule Help Desk technicians do not open, take apart, or install hardware components or install software on any student-owned machine. Also see Off-Campus Assistance with Your Computer.
Information Commons Technology Desk
The Information Commons Technology Desk in Beatley Library provides walk-in technical support for students and others using the Library. The desk's schedule coincides with the Library's hours; please check the Library's web site. Students with software questions or faulty media can come to the Information Commons for help.
Pottruck Technology Resource Center (PTRC)
The PTRC provides free training classes. Please consult the training schedule or call the PTRC (617-521-2736). See Free Training.
Media Services
Media Services loans media equipment (e.g. cameras) and media (e.g. videotapes and DVDs). Please call Media Services at 617-521-2765. On the web site you will find a list of available equipment; all non-print media is described in the Libraries catalog. See Technology services for you: Multimedia.
