Equipment and Media
Technology supports a wide range of audio, video, graphics, and photography technology. Students may borrow equipment, such as digital and 35 mm cameras, miniDV camcorders, and audiotape recorders, for academic use. Technology provides: brief lessons on using Simmons equipment and about associated software installation; workshops to which students may bring their own cameras; and training classes about digital editing. Other students as well as faculty and staff depend on borrowers to return equipment on time and in good condition. Students must return equipment borrowed from Technology on time or pay overdue fees. Technology will refer to the Honor Board students who repeatedly keep equipment past its due date and time.

For information about the types of equipment available, please visit Media's Equipment Overview or stop by Media Services in Palace Road P108.

Production-Related Equipment and Software
Technology runs a small lab with Macintosh and Windows computers, scanners, and photo imaging software. During office hours, students are welcome to use the equipment, but Technology cannot provide immediate assistance. Technology encourages students interested in such equipment and software to attend a Technology training. For academic work, which takes priority in the lab, students can come to open Media Lab times for technical assistance (listed in the training calendar) or make a reservation to use the equipment.

Media Use
The Beatley Library maintains a non-print media collection (videotapes, DVDs, etc.) that is available for student use.  Videos on reserve are available at the Access Services desk on the 1st floor of the Library Information Commons.  For answers to "where to view/listen to media" on campus, see the Student FAQ.
