Username and Passwords
As a Simmons student, you have access to many network services that require a username (or login name) and password. Your username is the same across all Simmons systems. But keeping track of which password goes with which account can be confusing. This web page outlines the various accounts you have, and how to change those passwords.

Two passwords:
Email/Simmons eLearning/AARC/Library resources/Website/Student Web Server
You have one password for all of the accounts listed below.
- Simmons Email To get started with your Simmons email account, see Email (my.simmons.edu/technology/students/email.shtml).
- Simmons eLearning (powered by WebCT Vista) To get started with eLearning, login (my.simmons.edu/elearning) and then click on the "Student Resource Center."
- AARC To get started with the Academic and Administrative Resource Center (AARC; has replaced SOAR), see the AARC home page (aarc.simmons.edu). You use AARC to register for classes.
- Library resources You have access to hundreds of Library resources from on-campus or off (my.simmons.edu/library/).
- Secure Pages on the Simmons Website For example, login to see the student directory (my.simmons.edu/directory/).
- Student Web Server Some coursework requires student access the student web server and other services via "protocols" such as ftp, ssh, and telnet. Your instructor will provide instructions, or to get started, see Personal Web Publishing.
- go to http://preferences.simmons.edu/, log in, and click Change User Password
- If you have forgotten your password, call the Help Desk (617-521-2222) to have it reset. You will be asked for your ID number.
Simmons Computers and File Servers
Computers in the Library Information Commons, general access labs, and classrooms (Windows XP and Mac OS X) require that you login. Logging into these computers with your own username and password connects you to your personal storage space on the file server, and to space on the file server where you can share files with other students. This is the same password as for remote access to the file server (see remote.simmons.edu Guide).
To change this password:

- If you have forgotten your password, call the Help Desk (617-521-2222) to have it reset. You will be asked for your ID number.
