SOCIAL CAPITAL SURVEY
Faculty member Fiona Wilson is collaborating with colleagues at the BU School of Management on a research project in an effort to better understand how women perceive their social awareness. The results of this survey will be used to benefit women and assist in development of education programs to enhance women’s careers. The quick, 10 minute survey explores social skills and competencies which are crucial to entrepreneurs and business leaders. Greater social awareness and social competencies enhance your ability to build “social capital” which is the sum of potential resources you may gain from your relationships with others (contacts, connections, reputation). It is well known that women who achieve success in leadership and entrepreneurship tend to rate highly on their social awareness and social skills.
Please help us by completing this survey. The survey is being administered by Zoomerang and is voluntary. All responses are confidential and all respondents will remain anonymous. If you would like to participate, please go to this website: http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB2249BQV9Z2R. This survey will close on August 31st, 2005. Thank you in advance for your time!
HELP WANTED
Faculty member is seeking a research assistant. The research assistant should have excellent research, writing, and computer skills. The research topics would include executive compensation, corporate governance, corporate scandals, and related ethical issues. This position requires 10-12 hours per week, and hours are flexible. The starting rate is $12.00 per hour. If interested, please contact Professor Bruce Warren at bruce.warren@simmons.edu.
The Operations Department is seeking a PART TIME person to “cover” the Receptionist Desk in the 409 Comm Ave. Lobby. This would require a five hour commitment to cover the receptionist’s lunch Monday through Friday. We are flexible about the hour covered knowing you are in school - as long as you can work an hour between 11:30am and 2pm that is fine. Responsibilities include answering phones, greeting guests and signing for packages. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is looking for something do to over their lunch time or needing a little extra money. Interested persons should contact the SOM Operations Asst Director, Karen Morrissey (karen.morrissey@simmons.edu or x3821).
The Egyptian nursing school project (being done jointly by Simmons Health Care Administration Program and the Nursing Program) needs staff to work full or part time over the next year. Several research assistant jobs are available for persons with good excel and writing skills. Several part time consultant jobs are also available. The persons in these positions will organize, manage and produce written design plans for various aspects of the new nursing school(e.g. an admissions plan, a marketing plan, business plan, faculty requirements plan, an operations plan and budget, infrastructure plan and capital budget, etc.). These generalist consultants would each lead development of one of the specific plans, including working with our nursing faculty and Egyptian counterparts to identify issues, set requirements, collect data, and prepare the written plan. Good analytic, organizational, and people skills are required. Travel is not necessarily involved. These consutlants would probably need to spend a month or two (spread over 6-10 months) to do this work.
If interested, please contact Gary Gaumer at gary.gaumer@simmons.edu.
Professor Lawrence Susskind is looking for students and local practitioners interested in testing two new teaching simulations focused on technology-centered negotiations. The game designers are organizing test runs of the two different simulations at the Consensus Building Institute at 238 Main Street Suite 400 (directly opposite the Kendall Square T station). The test run for one of these simulations will be on September 8, 2005 from 5:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided.
The simulations are being developed for the new Harvard Project on Negotiation/CBI Executive Training Program on Technology Negotiations. These games are focused on the impact of technological complexity and uncertainty on negotiation strategy. They also address the psychological dimensions of technology negotiations (particularly the ways inventors and entrepreneurs seek to protect and pursue their personal interests) in technology licensing agreements.
If you are able to attend, please contact Ms. Sossi Aroyan at sossi@cbuilding.org.

COLOR SURVEY RESULTS
The results of the survey conducted last semester to determine if there is correlation between your color preferences and your MBTI score have been posted on WebCT in Track Forum. These results showed that there is a relationship between certain colors and personality types. The results proved to be very interesting!
Thank you very much to all the participants who took the time out of their busy schedules to fill out the survey! It was a very busy semester and your time was greatly appreciated!
Please feel free to contact deborah.rosenthal@alumnet.simmons.edu if you have any questions about the results.
