STUDENT OPPORTUNITY
I am looking to see if there are two students interested in attending a speakers forum with Evelyn Murphy, former Lt Gov. of Massachusetts, who is also a Ph.D in Economics. She has written a new book called Getting Even: Why Women Don’t Get Paid Like Men and What to Do About It. It will be held from 7:30-9:30am on Wednesday, November 9th at the Sheraton Boston. Gail McGovern, an HBS professor and former president of Fidelity Personal Investments, will also be speaking. Simmons has a table at this event, so if anyone is interested, please email me at mary.dutkiewicz@simmons.edu by September 23rd at noon. I will do a lottery for the spots if we have lots of interest in this event! Thanks!

OPERATIONS UPDATE
We have Public Safety working hard trying to fix the ID problems over at the SOM. It has been difficult to isolate the problem as some IDs work in 451 but not at the library entrance, some returning students are working and others are not, most new student IDs are not working, all faculty and staff seem to be working. Please know we are trying to get this resolved as quickly as possible.
STUDENT BUSINESS CARDS
Students interested in ordering business cards should email Carolyn at carolyn.bogle@simmons.edu. Please include your name, class year (it will read: MBA Candidate ‘06), phone, fax, and email. Cards will cost somewhere between $30 - $50 for 250. The more students who order, the cheaper the price will be. Please email by Friday, September 30th if you are interested.
JOIN CGO FOR AN OPEN HOUSE!
The Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO) is having an Open House for students on Tuesday, September 27 from 2:30-6:00pm. Drop in and learn about the role CGO plays at the SOM, our current projects, and our newest publications, and visit with some of our faculty affiliates and staff. Or just come to enjoy some “gender equitable” munchies! CGO is located on the 4th floor of 407 (two floors above the Purple Room at the back of the building). We look forward to meeting you!
HURRICANE KATRINA
In response to the Hurricane Katrina devastation, Simmons College has decided to create a Response Team to better coordinate the efforts of all the units and to develop both a short-term and long-term plan of action. Suzzette Turnbull, co-chair of the Response Team, is the representative for the SOM. We are seeking a student and faculty member to join her on this team. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Suzzette at 617.521.3839 or suzzette.turnbull@simmons.edu. If multiple students are interested, we can explore ways for everyone to be involved to some capacity. We are also seeking suggestions of options to add to our plan.
WOMEN OF COLOR CLUB
The Women of Color Club will be restarting this month. This club will focus on personal and professional development as well as incorporating some social activities for women of color. We will also be collaborating with the Latina Club for some of our events/workshops. Please contact Suzzette Turnbull (suzzette.turnbull@simmons.edu, 617.521.3839) immediately if you are interested.
PAID MARKET RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY
The Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) is a non-profit organization that supports
the development of emerging visual artists and writers through its Fellowship Program and residencies. The Work Center also offers an extensive program of summer and fall workshops and courses, and provides a year-round schedule of public readings and exhibits to the general public — all within the historic arts colony of Provincetown.
The Summer Workshop Program has grown to approximately 800 annual participants. In an effort to further refine its marketing and expand its customer base to maximum capacity, FAWC would like to undertake a market research/customer profile study. An earlier assessment of the program and a student survey were done four years ago and will serve as a resource. The new market research project ideally will be completed by early 2006; FAWC will provide compensation for expenses and a modest fee. If you¹re interested in exploring this project, please contact Ellen Kulik ‘97 at ekulik@fawc.org.
PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Susan Sampson, Professor of Marketing, is seeking a student worker for 10-15 hours a week paying $10 an hour. This position entails research help - literature searches – maybe some data entry and typing (editing, footnotes, tables, etc.). Must be proficient in Word and Excel and good at library searches. There is also an opportunity to help with class prep. Susan is currently working on a pay equity project and several retail projects. If you are interested, please contact Susan at 617.521.3895 or susan.sampson@simmons.edu.
Jane Mooney, Associate Professor of Accounting, is seeking a student to stay with her daughter and help her with her homework in her office on Thursdays from 6-9pm. She doesn’t require a lot of help, so the student would be able to do her own work a good deal of the time. Please contact Jane at 617.521.3836 or jane.mooney@simmons.edu.
Karen Morrissey, Assistant Director of Operations, is seeking a student to cover the front desk during lunch Monday through Friday, approximately five hours per week. The position pays $10 per hour. Please contact Karen Morrissey at 617.521.3821 or karen.morrissey@simmons.edu.
The Office of the Dean is seeking a student worker for light office work (data entry, filing, copying, etc.). Proficiency in excel is required. Please contact Kim O’Neil at 617.521.3816 or kimberly.oneil@simmons.edu.
STUDENT LOCKERS
There are small lockers for students available in the basement of the 409 building. There are lots of them currently available and are available on a first come, first serve model. Please bring a lock to secure your locker.
BOOK FOR TECH & OPS
Kim Pacheco ’06 has an extra copy of The Goal, one of the required readings for Technology & Operations. If you would like her copy, contact her at pacheco@simmons.edu.
