NOTE FROM MARY D.
Believe it or not, the halfway point of the semester has just passed and we are about to start week 8 of the fall term. You are in the heavy workload points of the semester when deliverables are due or coming due, midterms have happened for many of you, and you are trying to keep your life in some balance. Try and keep it all in perspective, study hard, study smart, but remember that if you have to have some down time to recharge your batteries. It is all about time management and good choices right now. Taking a couple of hours to relax will pay dividends in the next part of the semester. Remember what we said in Foundations-it is a marathon, not a sprint.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.” — Walter Elliott
SCHEDULE UPDATES AND CHANGES
1. GSM 411A Economics Review, Thursday, October 27, 2:15pm.
2. GSM 411A Economics class on November 15, 12-2pm, has been rescheduled for November 3, 2:15p-4:15p following Exam #2.
3. Student/Alumnae Community event postponed until the Spring.
OPERATIONS UPDATE
Within the next 2 weeks, we will be installing 3 combination fridges with small freezers and 3 microwaves in the kitchen area of Mockler. Students have been requesting more microwaves and this should help alleviate the wait to heat things up! Please remember to label your food as well if you plan to keep anything in the fridges.
SPRING REGISTRATION
Spring registration dates for the SOM will be November 13-21. All registration is online and more information will be coming very soon!
EXCEL TRAINING SESSIONS
We have had a request to have our new QA professor, Abbott Weiss, hold a help session on excel for all students that feel like they need additional training. If you are interested in coming in on a Saturday morning for a 2-3 hour workshop, please email Paula at paula.donaldson@simmons.edu by October 28. Abbott is happy to host it, but we need to insure it is a critical mass of students.
SOM HONOR BOARD REPRESENTATIVE NEEDED
The Honor Board is a committee comprised of faculty and students, convened by the Dean for Student Life, that deals with violations of the Simmons College Honor Code. The Board meets two days per month, usually Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. We are looking for one student representative from the School of Management. The SOM representative would serve with full voting rights and hear cases not only from the SOM, but from the other graduate schools as well as the undergraduate college. Please contact Joanna Conroy in the Office of the Dean for Student Life with any questions, 617-521-2125 or joanna.conroy@simmons.edu.
STUDENT ACADEMIC COUNCIL
Each year we ask for students who are interested in serving on the student advisory council, which is an advisory group to the MBA office. It is a virtual group that gives input and feedback on any number of issues under consideration to improve the MBA program. Topics could range from elective offerings, to the academic calendar, accreditation issues, or the new building. It is a voluntary commitment and we invite anyone who is interested to email Mary D. She is the advisor to this group. Her email is mary.dutkiewicz@simmons.edu. It is a great way to be involved with the school ! Students who were on it last year should reconfirm interest in staying on it as well! Thanks!
STUDENT BUSINESS CARDS
Students interested in ordering business cards should email Carolyn at carolyn.bogle@simmons.edu. Please include your name, class year (it will read: MBA Candidate ‘06), one contact phone, one fax, and one email. Cards will cost somewhere between $20 - $40 for 250. Please email by Friday, November 4th if you are interested.
SOM LOGO POLICY
The MBA Office would like to ensure that all students are aware of the copyright laws and the School policy around the use of the Simmons logo and name. Students are not permitted to use the Simmons logo and name to produce any materials outside of the school (i.e. business cards, SOM Club Letterhead, newsletters, marketing materials, etc.). Any request to use the logo and name in that way must be submitted to the MBA Office and approval from the School must be obtained.
