THREE PART-TIME STUDENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE!! — Simmons School of Management/The Boston Foundation Nonprofit Resource Guide Project
Project Description:
The Boston Foundation (TBF), in partnership with the SOM, seeks to develop a Nonprofit Resource Guide (NRG). We envision the NRG to be a comprehensive resource manual, a virtual gateway that will live on The TBF’s website. The web-based NRG will link nonprofit organizations and those interested in learning more about the Massachusetts nonprofit sector to educational, technical, and informational resources. It will be available online, printable in an easy format.
The proposed project will be developed in several phases. The first phase will focus on three topics:
1. About Nonprofits (nonprofit basics, laws and regulations that govern the nonprofit sector)
2. State of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Sector (MassInc/TBF Research, other data and findings, nonprofit advocacy/repositioning project)
3. The Essential Role of Effective Governance (The standards and measures of effective governance by boards of directors; examination of board models of structure and operation; best practices with proven track records of success.)
Each section will include an overview, links to national and local information sites, TBF forum presentations, case studies, and other relevant resources. These three sections will be completed in a four month period, in time for the launch of the new TBF website. Subsequent phases will take on other topics such as Leadership, Diversity, Strategy, Financial management & fundraising, Organizational and technical infrastructure, Evaluation, Marketing & communications, Volunteer management, and Management of staff and working in the nonprofit sector. These and/or other topics will be added over time.
Student Role:
We are seeking three students to each work 10 hours per week for 16 weeks. Each student will be assigned one of the three topics mentioned above, and will responsible for compiling the background research and assembling the content for that section of the NRG. We are seeking candidates with very strong research skills and the ability to meet deadlines. The position is a perfect opportunity for students interested in learning more about the nonprofit sector. Pay will be $15.00/hour. This position is open to Simmons MBA students only.
Project Oversight and Supervision:
The project will be developed in partnership with the Simmons School of Management and overseen by Patricia Deyton, Assistant Professor of Nonprofit Management.
How to Apply:
Please submit your resume and a brief statement of interest via e-mail to Tara Hudson, CGO Coordinator, at tara.hudson@simmons.edu. Questions may sent to Tara via e-mail or by phone at 617.521.3824.
