CHANGES AT THE SOM
Bill Porter, our technology specialist at the SOM, has taken a new job at BC in their academic technology department, and his last day at the SOM will be October 12. Bill has done a great job in a very complicated role where he was responsible for help desk issues, event and classroom support as well as managing the lab. His speciality is production and this move to BC fits his passion. While it is hard to see any member of our community leave, one can only wish him well when he tells you he has found a “perfect” job!!

OPERATIONS UPDATES
1. Red Sox are in town this weekend, so please plan accordingly if you are coming into school.
2. The temperature in CR2 has been turned up!

WEBCT VISTA UPDATES
Track Forum is up and running. This is a place on WebCT Vista where students can post any non academic information for others to read, similar to a community bulletin board. Feel free to post things you want your fellow classmates to know about!!

In addition, administrators from Academic Technology visited the SOM campus yesterday afternoon to offer guidance to students on using the new WebCT Vista. Each individual student was able to receive personalized attention, and any user issues were resolved by the end of the session.

In order to be sure you have done your part for the Vista process, the following are four important reminders for all users:

1. WebCT Vista is completely compatible with Internet Explorer, whereas certain problems arise when other browsers such as Netscape are used. Therefore, it is highly recommended all users connect with Vista through Internet Explorer.

2. Although the login page for WebCT Vista highly recommends doing a browser check prior to logging in for the first time, all users must complete the browser check function in order to identify and address any problem areas.

3. Upon doing the browser check, many users have found their Java version is not compatible with Vista. To take advantage of all Vista functions, it is necessary for you to download the version required of all users in the browser check.

4. Pop up blockers must be turned off while using Vista. Sometimes this needs to be done in multiple places. They hamper the effectiveness of the software and can prevent you from accessing certain parts of the site as well as receiving important announcements.

If you are experiencing any issues with Vista, please email Academic Technology at webct@simmons.edu, or call the Simmons Help Desk at 617.521.2222. Please provide the location (home, on campus, etc.), type of computer used, browser used, and whether or not you performed the browser check. Most issues that have been encountered are easily fixed; most importantly, Academic Technology would like to be informed of any issues so they can continue to improve the process.

Both the MBA Office and Academic Technology thank you for your patience as we continue to resolve the issues.

STUDENT ACADEMIC COUNCIL
The Student Academic Council group is now a functioning group within Webct. Students that have volunteered to be on it should see in on their webct page. If you have volunteered and don’t see it, contact Paula!! Look for some new postings next week from Mary D!
