NOTE FROM MARY D.
The end of the Fall semester is here!! Night students finish up with their Accounting final tonight and there is one class left in QA Friday morning. Then you have a few weeks off!! Congratulations!! You have all worked so hard this fall and truly deserve a much needed break!! It is always my moment of reflection as to how far you have come whether it is your first semester or your 9th!! Think about how differently you prepare a case, manage your time, read the newspaper, or react to the economic reports or a company’s earnings statement. There are a ton of examples of how you think more critically and analytically as a result of your coursework. I hear it when I talk to you, faculty see it in your class participation, projects, papers, and exams. It will continue to build next semester. But for now, put the books away, don’t think about school, catch up with your family and friends, go shopping, if you celebrate the holidays - enjoy them!! We will see you in January!

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” — John Quincy Adams

“Unless you undertake more than you possibly can do, you will never do all that you can.” — Henry Drummond

411 STUDY ROOM NOTE FROM MARY D.
It appears that some students switched the room number signs up on the 5th floor last weekend, causing havoc for students who thought they reserved a particular room. If there is a problem upstairs with heat or anything else, tell someone, but do not change the room numbers. These rooms are all coded for emergency and fire, and it is dangerous to tamper with locations.

SOM BUILDING HOUR CHANGES FOR SECOND TERM
We will officially be closing the buildings for all students and staff at 10:30 every night in the Spring term. The last two weeks of the semester will have extended hours. On average, we have less than three students in the building after 9:30pm, as we have been monitoring the impact of this change on students. The student academic council has given me their support for this change as well.

SPRING SEMESTER START DATE
Classes for returning students begin as early as January 4. Foundations classes for new students will be January 3, 5, 7, and 9th.

12TH ANNUAL STUDENT RESEARCH CONFERENCE
Graduate students from universities throughout the nation and world are cordially invited to submit proposals for the 2006 Student Research Conference, which will be held at the Harvard Graduate School of Education on February 24, 2006. This year’s conference will feature student work, both theoretical and practical, that address a variety of educational issues.

The conference is intended to give graduate students a chance to present completed research papers, parts of qualifying papers or dissertation work, or even works-in-progress. In the past, we have had presenters from other graduate schools at Harvard and from graduate schools across the United States and Canada join our local Ed School students. This is a great opportunity for students to practice public presentation of their work in a supportive environment and meet colleagues who share their research interests.

Presentations can be made in a variety of formats: round table discussions, poster sessions, or panel presentations. Proposals must be submitted via the conference website by January 6, 2006. Links for proposal submission and additional information can be found on the conference website at http://gseweb.harvard.edu/~src_web.
