NOTE FROM MARY D.
Welcome back to all returning students and a special welcome to the new January class that is in Foundations right now!! All returning students that I have run into have told me they had a great break, but it was too short!!
NOTE FROM THE DEAN
I want to encourage you to join us the evening of January 10th for two events directly aligned with our strategy for building the SOM.
Part I - Executive in the Classroom Presentation (5:00pm in CR2)
Part II - Silverman Business Plan Competition (6:30pm in CR2)
First, Trish Karter, Co-founder & CEO, Dancing Deer Bakery Company, is our featured Executive-in-the-Classroom. Trish is an exemplar of a principled entrepreneurial leader, incorporating social responsibility into her core business practices. Trish is an energetic and engaging speaker and we are fortunate to have her come and share her experiences. She will focus on the dilemmas that she has grappled with as she has pursued organizational growth while maintaining core founding values.
Dancing Deer is not only one of the most respected and award winning natural food brands, but is also recognized broadly for it’s creative marketing, innovative business practices and social responsibility. A woman-owned enterprise located in Boston’s inner city, Dancing Deer is lauded as one of the nation’s most innovative natural food companies. It has received the food industry’s equivalent of the “Oscars” many times over. In addition, a committed environmentalist, Trish Karter has committed the company to continuing its leadership in the natural foods movement and striving to attain green manufacturing and packaging to the fullest extent possible. The company also partners in a philanthropic venture called the Sweet Home Project, with the Paul and Phyllis Fireman Foundation. Dancing Deer donates 35% of the retail price from the Sweet Home product line to direct action programs to end family homelessness.
Second, Trish’s talk is followed by the SOM MBA Program’s first ever Silverman Business Plan Competition. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see the impact of our MBA education and learn more about our alumnae’s entrepreneurial plans and aspirations.
I would love to have solid student representation as a reflection of the importance that we accord to both of these new initiatives: principled leadership and entrepreneurship. Please come if you can.
Best,
Deborah
