Technology Survey

I know it’s ironic for us to be trying to collect information that includes students who do not own their own computers by using an online survey. We just can’t manage the results of doing a paper survey.

Our past data has indicated that 95-98% of Simmons students own computers. That is in keeping with results at other schools.

Clearly, students without computers have responded, because 2-5% over the past 4 years have said they don’t. However, given the college’s Shared Academic Technology vision, which affirms Simmons’ commitment to using technology in teaching and learning (when it is appropriate to do so), we want to be sure that we know more about potential impediments to student technology use.

The survey is the home page at every lab and general access computer on campus. We’re going to put up flyers aimed at students who don’t own their own computers. I’m going to ask some faculty to announce the survey in their classes.

If there is anything else you think I could do to encourage participation, please let me know.
