Building Partnerships and Enhancing Career Success
MISSION AND GOALS
Build partnerships with students, alumnae, employers and the SOM community to enhance and facilitate career success. Be a prime source to employers as they hire new and more seasoned MBA professionals, and ensure students and alumnae are prepared to conduct effective job searches and career transitions successfully.
SPECIFIC OFFERINGS
Individual Career Advising
We offer individual career advising to help students strategize their career options, and develop/execute a successful job search plan. We partner with students to help them position themselves strategically as they prepare their self-marketing tools. These include crafting a marketing-driven resume, elevator pitch, success stories and cover letters. In addition, students can develop and practice interview and networking techniques. Lastly, we provide counsel to students as they evaluate opportunities and negotiate offers.
To make an appointment, please contact:
Lisa Toby, Director of Career Services, 617.521.3854
Terry Del Percio, Senior Career Consultant, 617.521.3855
When asked about their experience with the Career Services Office students have said;
"The CSO is extremely helpful. They go above and beyond to help you make the right connections and suggest career strategies"
"Prepared me for each interview. Was incredibly patient, and so knowledgeable about what to expect while interviewing."
Career Workshops and Speaker Series
This is a combination of skills-based workshops, guest speakers, industry panels, and information sessions that will help students and alumnae (in the midst of a job search or transition) explore career options and expand professional networks. Each event is designed to prepare students/alumnae throughout the various stages of their job search, from self-assessment to the final interview/offer phase. Please watch the student and alumnae announcements closely for detailed information about upcoming workshops and guest speakers.
Employer/Alumnae Networking Events
The Career Services Office hosts two main employer events per year. These events are not traditional career fairs, but rather more intimate gatherings where employers visit the SOM to network with students interested in learning about their organizations, as well as to have substantive conversations with potential candidates. In addition, students can network with alumnae guests to learn about their organizations, and to build relationships with seasoned professionals from the SOM community.
Access to Online Job Postings from Employer Partners
Click here to access the SOM's customized online recruiting and job listings database, which allows students to learn about job opportunities and companies interested in Simmons MBAs. We also use this database to house important information about you. Please make sure you complete your student profile and upload your current resume to this system. If you were previously registered to use Sharklink, the same username and password will work for the new system. If you do not know your username and password, e-mail Georgette Arato, Career Services Coordinator, for assistance. If you are a new student or have never used the CSO's online job database, you are able to register yourself and select your own username and password. Click here for instructions.

Changing Directions
A Special Series for Career Changers
Limited to Ten (10) Participants
A Workshop series specifically geared towards alumnae and students who are considering a significant career change.
More and more women are choosing to make significant changes in their careers. It takes courage and resilience to embark on this path, and there are many challenges. The goal of this group is to learn new ways of thinking about and working towards a career change while in the midst of colleagues faced with similar challenges.
The series is five weeks long. We ask that you make a commitment to attend every meeting so that we build a cohesive support group and work through the process together. Each meeting will build upon the prior one. At the end of the series, we will ask for your feedback for continuous improvement purposes.
Please Note: This is NOT a Job Search workshop. If you need to review concrete tools for conducting a job search, please consider the Job Seeker's Network meetings. The next date for the start-up of Job Seeker’s meetings is Wednesday, September 9 at 6:00pm. Please RSVP to georgette.arato@simmons.edu with "JSN RSVP" in the subject line if you are attending.
A waiting list will be available. Based upon demand, another group will probably start up in the early spring. Get on the waiting list early.
Job Seeker's Network
Positive Job Search Skills
The Job Seeker's Network (JSN) are bi-weekly meetings for SOM alumnae that focus on specific job search techniques and tools. Meetings will resume on Wednesday, September 15th. For the most updated information on meeting dates, times and locations join the JSN LinkedIn group JSS - SOM.
Pre-registration is REQUIRED email georgette.arato@simmons.edu.
