MBA Office Updates

Note From Mary D.

Happy New Year and welcome to our new January class that has started this week! Returning students have 4 more days of rest before we begin again on Monday! I am hopeful that all of you enjoyed the time off and are ready to start another semester!! It is hard not to comment on the spectacular success of both the Patriots and the Celtics as we start the New Year. What I find interesting about the Patriots this week is that all the talk is about the fact that the record is nice, but none of them have lost sight of their big goal, which is to get to the Super Bowl. For you in the MBA program, each semester is an important milestone, and each one is important. But, all of them are steps along the way developing your skills as a thinker, problem solver and leader and getting your degree. Our new students are just beginning their MBA journey and have no idea how they will change over the course of their time at Simmons. Returning students see these changes in themselves and their classmates with every passing semester and I get to see it with all of you. The changes that you all go through is one of the best things about my job and why I love to come to work every day!

Special Note From Mary D.

As many of you know, there was a terrible fire in South Boston on New Year’s Eve where two people lost their lives and the building was destroyed. One of our current students and recent alums lived in this building and both got out safely, but they have lost everything. We are collecting donations to help them and anyone who wishes to contribute should bring cash or a check to the MBA office and we will then get gift cards to help them. Once we hear what else they need in the way of household items, clothes, etc. we will let everyone know. I find that in times of crisis, the Simmons community rallies around each other to help any way they can and both of them are very touched with the outreach underway. Thanks! Mary D

Technology Update

As always, Technology at Simmons College actively works to provide the School of Management the same excellent service it delivers the Main Campus. At the same time we are also constantly working to improve upon these services, given the inherent difficulties of supporting a satellite campus.

In continuing this endeavor, Technology would like to unveil a further improvement to the service we provide to the SOM community. This latest improvement is a new Technology website for the SOM. All the technology resources at the disposal of the SOM community can be found on this site, including what is available to checkout, hours the lab is staffed, etc. It is an excellent reference for your technology needs.

The site can be found at

http://my.simmons.edu/services/technology/labs/som.shtml and will also soon be found in the SOM Gateway site as well. Please take a moment to take a look at the site and see what resources are at your disposal.

If you have any questions, please contact Ryan at ryan.gardnercook@simmons.edu

More Employers Are Going Green To the Delight of Young Workers

More corporations are going "green" and discovering that helping the environment isn't the only payoff. Eco-friendly policies can also help companies attract young talent, increase productivity and reduce costs.

"Students are looking to work for companies that care about the environment," says Lindsey Pollak, author of "Getting From College to Career." "They are almost expecting greenness like they expect work-life balance, ethnic diversity and globalization."
