Study Trip Note from Mary D.

I had a wonderful 10 days with the undergrad students on their study tour on women’s leadership. We were in Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava and Prague and met with wonderful women entrepreneurs, the highest ranking woman in GE for Central Europe in Budapest, a partner at Ernst and Young in Prague, and great faculty at a variety of universities doing work on gender, CSR, and leadership. It was fabulous and got me very excited about the possibilities for what type of experiences might work well for MBA students!

Note from Mary D.

I have just had two track meetings today with day and evening students and I think it is fair to say that many of you are feeling like you are truly in the tough part of the semester as courses are now having midterms, projects, and other deliverables starting or looming. June for many students is the toughest month of summer term, but then for many students it turns after the 4th of July because many electives are winding down, you have a sense of where you stand in your required coursework and the graduating students are in the 30 day countdown!! Hang in there and stay focused and remember that if you plan ahead, you can go those important social events in your life and have fun and recharge those intellectual batteries!!

Quotes of the Week

“Wisdom is the sharing of wise experiences and knowledge, but a lot of it is common sense. The difference is how we apply this common sense - we all have the ability to keep going even when we face challenges in our lives - basically it comes down to your attitude. We can have a positive attitude towards life, or a negative attitude. We can focus on the good or we can focus on the bad. Keeping a positive mental attitude is one of the keys to success.  The choice is always up to you! “

--Anon.

“Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful."

Pinch-Hitting Is a Key To Success at Small Firms

Early in her career, job coach Sherri Thomas worked at an ad agency with fewer than 10 employees. Her title was copywriter, but she found that her job often spanned stints as a media buyer, event promoter and research analyst. This kind of pinch-hitting is often par for the course at small firms, says Ms. Thomas, author of "Career Smart: 5 Steps to a Powerful Personal Brand."
