Summer Schedule Updates For Next Week
Students Finishing Their Degree Requirements in August
MBA Office Updates Next week is week 11 and we will begin to see your courses finish up and the end of summer term in sight! Strategy ends, BGGE presentations are next week and Entrepreneurship students have their last big weekend of classes. 3 weeks from today you will be done for the summer term and within five weeks, the students finishing their degree requirements will have received their diplomas and celebrated at the Dean’s Reception. In the next few days, two surveys will be released. Students finishing their degree requirements will receive the annual exit survey and all students will receive the student satisfaction survey. These surveys are our chance to see what is working well and what we can improve on within the MBA program. It is a really important to all of us that you fill out the survey. Our goal is to make the MBA program be the best it can be and the feedback we receive from all of you helps us keep moving in that direction. We take the feedback really seriously and know I will be hounding you to fill it out! But, based on how great you were at responding to our request for input into the program office services and hours, I am confident you will respond to these surveys as well! Many of you know that I love golf and watched the British Open last weekend, which was unbelievably exciting to watch, which if you don’t follow the game at all you might say, how can anything be exciting about golf!! I had two thoughts as I watched Tom Watson stage the most wonderful final round in many years only to lose in the playoff. My takeaway for your MBA is around grace under pressure and confidence in your abilities has to remain strong regardless of the circumstances. He had to have been devastated when he missed that putt on the last hole, but it did not show on the surface...Did he slam his clubs into the ground like Tiger did during the week when it was clear early in the playoff that he had lost his momentum- no. He exhibited true grace under pressure as he watched his dream slip away, but I believe that people will not remember that he lost, they will remember his charge and how consistently he acted throughout it all-the good, the bad, the great and the ugly. You must believe in your ability to stand up and deliver in the moment and give it your all. I won’t even talk about Tiger’s behavior, which was appalling to me! "I went to the brink many times. A couple of times I thought I'm gone.. This is it. But then you would just keep working. I think if you're close to the brink and just make sure that you work twice as hard and put twice as much effort into everything and the people around you and everything, you should come through." -- Gerry Harvey As for the genius of innovation, clearly the one percent spark of inspiration is nurtured by a positive culture. But the 99 percent perspiration ingredient comes from employees who love what they do, as well as where they do it, and who invest in that Holy Grail of productivity called “discretionary effort." -- Stephanie Quappe, David Samso Aparici, Jon Warshawsky
Last class for Strategy and Market Research is next week! Entrepreneurship classes meet Thursday-the weekend. BGGE Presentations moved from August 1 to July 29 Students Finishing Their Degree Requirements in August Zoomerang ballots are out on the Pat Miller Award, please vote! All student data sheets are in for diplomas, thank you! Mary D would love to meet individually or with study groups to do personal exit interviews for students who want to meet with her. Some students do it as they are finishing up, others opt to come back in September and meet once they have had some time off! Student Semester T-Pass Orders Deadline: August 5, 2009 Attention Students! Don't forget to order your Semester T-Pass! Student Semester T-Pass orders and payment MUST be received by Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Order forms and a link to an online payment site are available on the OSLA website. Please place your order online using our secure server. You can also print out an order form and mail it with your payment to: The Office of Student Leadership and Activities Changes in SOM Academic Programs Office Hours as of July 13th Thanks to all of you that helped us evaluate service priorities for the program office going forward with our current staff. We had over a 50% student response rate to the Zoomerang survey and it was amazing how consistent your responses were on some ways we could change that would have minimal effects on service! Here are our new hours of operation for the Academic Programs Office, effective July 14, 2009. Mary D |
