MBA Office Updates
Econ class #1 starts Wednesday, Feb 25 Comm Strat videotaping: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday Next week is the site team visit and we have attached the bios of the three site team members who will be on campus. They will arrive on Sunday, February 22 and be here through Wednesday, February 25. Students have requested I resend the MBA Program Goals, but they are part of your current academic policy document, as well as the mission for your review. They will have a very busy few days here but may wander into classes, especially the day section of Managerial Accounting! I have 25 current students for the meeting with the site team, and they will represent you proudly!! Please see attachments for this information, as well as bios for the three site team members. Katlyn Cavanaugh is Back from Leave! Katlyn Cavanaugh in the Academic Programs Office is back from maternity leave. If you have anything for the update going forward please email her at katlyn.cavanaugh@simmons.edu. Many of you have asked if the book for SDM will be used in Strategy and the answer is yes!! But, you will also need to purchase the Markstrat simulation for summer as well as a small coursepack. What is critically important is that you buy the current edition that Fiona specifies in her booklist. Last year’s edition will not help you with many of the materials she is using this summer. Girls Get Connected (http://girlsgetconnected.org/) inspires and prepares girls for careers in science and technology though summer and after-school programs. One of Girls Get Connected’s signature programs, EcoStem, teaches Boston middle school students about the city’s urban environment and geographic information and global positioning systems. The activities, co-developed with our program’s high school students, teach middle school students the importance of trees and other green spaces in the urban environment. Interested students should contact Deborah Muscella at deborah.muscella@simmons.edu Study Rooms To reserve a study room on the second floor, please stop by the Program Office (M-M103) or email Nicole Catavolos (nicole.catavolos@simmons.edu). You can book the rooms for 2 hour blocks, although if no one comes to claim the room when your two hours are up, you're welcome to stay longer. If you're using the wireless network in the building, and would like to print a document, you can print to one of the available pay-for-print stations! Here's how: 1. Directions -- You can find directions to the main campus here: http://www.simmons.edu/overview/directions/ Campus Map -- You can find a main campus map here: Bookstore -- There is no longer an SOM satellite bookstore, you must go to the College bookstore for your textbooks, coursepacks, and store hours. The bookstore is located in the basement of the Main Campus Building (MCB), across from The Fens Cafeteria. Class locations: You can find your class locations on AARC: aarc.simmons.edu Faculty offices: all faculty are on the 3rd and 4th floors. There is a directory near the elevators in the first floor lobby. IDs: You are going to need to use your ID to get in and out of the garage to park if you buy parking cash or a parking pass, so remember to bring it with you!! MBA Resource Room on the 1st floor is reserved for MBA students only. Half of the study rooms will be held for MBA students, the other half for UG students to reserve

NEW SOM COMMUNITY BUILDING WEEKLY EVENT FOR MBA, UG, FACULTY AND STAFF Little Known Fact
Little Known Fact is a new, free, weekly gathering by and for the students of the Simmons College School of Management that will be hosted by Beth Dunn, MBA student, ’09. A casual, fun, and friendly series consisting of brief presentations, fellowship, and food, Little Known Fact will bring together full-time and part-time MBA students of all cohorts, undergraduates, faculty, and staff Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the new School of Management building. SOM students have longed for a third place – not the classroom, not the bar – in which they could build real community and strengthen important relationships within the vibrant Simmons community. Little Known Fact will provide a consistent and compelling focus for this diverse community, by drawing on and celebrating the unique skills and talents of current SOM students. Each weekly gathering will feature a brief, five-minute presentation by a current SOM student, who will share her Little Known Fact – some hidden skill or talent that would otherwise go unnoticed in the fast-paced rush of the semester. After the presentation, attendees will ask questions and discuss their own experiences on the subject. Whether it’s How to hail a cab in six different languages or How to make a stunning necklace in 30 seconds, each session will present a lighthearted, but intriguing glimpse into the lives of our fellow students. No college gathering is complete without free food, so light fare, snacks, coffee, tea, and soda will be provided at each weekly session. Expand your horizons, learn new skills, and meet your SOM colleagues this Spring Semester at Little Known Fact, Wednesday afternoons beginning February 4 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm in the second floor lounge at the top of the stairs.

Services Updates Please be sure to visit Career Connect as we have new internship postings listed for Tufts Health Plan (Compliance, working for terrific SOM Alumna) and MIT (Investment Analysis). Also, HP would welcome the opportunity to hold a 30 minute webinar with students who are interested in summer internships. Currently, they have a need for MBA students interested in Human Resources (MA or CA based locations). In addition, they may have needs in marketing and other functional areas – particularly based in Palo Alto, CA – as they are just receiving internship requests from hiring managers. We need at least 7 students to hold the webinar. Please email lisa.toby@simmons.edu as soon as you can, if possible by Friday, Feb. 20th, if you are interested in attending the webinar here within the SOM building (space tbd).
