MBA Office Updates

Note From Mary D.

Summer term has started and I am thrilled to see happy faces once again in the caserooms! The countdown for graduating students is less than 100 days and for all our other students it means that you have completed anywhere between one and eight semesters. Every semester is a milestone and my note focuses on taking some time to figure out how to be the most successful in summer term. It has many challenges that are different than other terms. It is summer, the weather is nice, there are a million graduations and weddings, many of your friends will be heading to the Cape or Maine on the weekends, and graduating students will get a touch of “senioritis”! Plan out your semester with deliverables, projects, exams and everything else in your busy lives, so that you can be successful in school and participate in important family and friend activities. It can be done!!

Simmons Net Impact presents an SRI Panel Event:

Socially Responsible Investing: To Profit with Principles

Panelists: Rob Thomas, President and Founder of Social(K) Funds
Sujatha Avutu, Pax World Women’s Equity Fund Manager
Natasha Lamb, Trillium Asset Management SRI Equity Researcher

Event:6:00-7:00p

Location: Simmons School of Management, 409 Commonwealth Ave., Boston

This panel discussion explores the world of socially responsible investing, from options for retirement to different methods of screening companies for inclusion in a fund.  Its focus is to facilitate informed investment decisions and it is a response to the explosive growth of “green” funds in the marketplace.  Currently, there is over 2.7 trillion socially responsible investment dollars in the US universe of managed assets, which represents one out of every nine dollars invested. Over the last two years, an average of one new socially responsible fund is launched every two weeks.  It is critical to distinguish between good marketing and good funds.  The information will be useful to all level of investors, from those considering entering the equity markets for the first time, to the more seasoned mutual fund investors.  After attending the panel, the audience will be empowered to begin researching SRI alternatives for their own portfolios.

Strategic Planning Internship

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Generations Incorporated unites older adults and youth in service to strengthen individuals and communities. We are working toward the day when older adults and youth are widely regarded as resources to one another and widespread intergenerational relationships lead to substantially stronger communities. Currently, we strive to achieve this goal through our focus on children’s literacy.

We are a fast paced, innovative organization in which service is the organizing principle. The Generations Incorporated Experience Corps program, through which we bring older adults into school and after school sites to serve as mentors and literacy volunteers, is one of the best in the nation. Currently, Generations Incorporated is expanding throughout Greater Boston, and needs an intern to support this strategic planning process.
