read, and other things you do a surface read of given how busy you l are.
This is a memo that I really encourage you to read carefully as it is
going to affect all of you in various ways. I believe all the changes are
good for students, good for the program and good for your learning, and will
look forward to discussions with you about them!!
Letter to Graduating Students – What Will Our
Legacy Be? Esteemed
Classmates, As we
approach graduation we have an opportunity to participate in a Simmons
tradition and leave our mark as the “Class of 2008”. Giving a
class gift is symbolic of our commitment to the MBA Program at Simmons and
our belief in ourselves as future leaders. Like
classes before us, our gift will represent both our legacy and our hopes for
the future of the SOM. This is our opportunity to leave our mark in the
history of the SOM. Most of
us are not familiar with the class gift process so the Class Gift Committee
would like to address some frequently asked question: Who selects the
“Class of 2008” gift choice? We do!
The class of 2008 will vote on our class gift. The gift that receives the
most votes will be the gift that our class will present to the School of
Management at the Dean’s Reception. Voting will take place during the
last week of May. To date, the Class Gift committee is hoping to build a
legacy gift around sustainability and principled leadership and we welcome
any additional suggestions. Who selects the
list of gifts that we vote on? We do!
The Class Gift Committee wants your ideas for class gifts. We have a list of
ideas that have been generated by members of the SOM community as a starting
point but our options are completely open. Please keep in mind that gifts
need to be aligned with the strategic goals of the school and that they
should be worthy of our legacy. Please email gift ideas to
abigail.mohlin@simmons.edu by Wednesday, May 21 at 5pm. Who is the Class
Gift Committee? The
class gift committee is made up of six co-chairs and a number of committee
members. The co-chairs are: Jennifer Alpert; Martha Conover; Erin Decurtis; Heather
Lantz; Erin McFee; and Janet Takarinwga. If you
are interested in being part of the class gift committee please contact any
one of the co-chairs to let us know. Who is Expected to
Participate? Our
hope is that everyone will participate at a level they deem appropriate for
their own situation. Our goal is 100% participation. Last year’s class
was able to achieve 87% participation and we think we can surpass that. 100% percent
participation, more than any dollar amount, will be a symbol of our strength
as a class. How Much Do We
Need to Raise as a Class? The amount
of funds needed for our class gift will depend on the gift that is selected
by the class. For example, last year’s class made a gift of $27,738
that funded Entrepreneurship Certificate Scholarships. Who Should I
Contact if I have Questions About the Class Gift? Please
feel free to contact anyone of the Class Gift Co-Chairs. We are all happy to
answer any questions you might have, and also welcome your feedback. Thank
you for your time. The Class Gift Committee hopes you will share your gift
ideas with us and we look forward to working with you over the next couple of
months to establish our legacy. Sincerely, Jennifer Albert Martha

What Is Web 2.0 Design Patterns and Business Models for the Next
Generation of Software The
bursting of the dot-com bubble in the fall of 2001 marked a turning point for
the web. Many people concluded that the web was overhyped,
when in fact bubbles and consequent shakeouts appear to be a common feature
of all technological revolutions. Shakeouts typically mark the point at which
an ascendant technology is ready to take its place at center stage. The
pretenders are given the bum's rush, the real success stories show their
strength, and there begins to be an understanding of what separates one from
the other.
