MBA Office Updates

Note From Mary D.

This is one of the first moments of the summer term where many students are starting to feel the pressure of midterms and many deliverables coming due at the same time. Please look at your syllabi closely and plan ahead as much as possible. Part of the reasons that courses are doubled up early in the term is so that you can have a break over Memorial Day and the 4th of July, but when things are mounting in workload and deliverables, it is normal to question the logic of why I scheduled the courses as we did! Take a day off this weekend even if you have things due next week. The weather is predicted to be beautiful and the first true sign that summer is coming! You will come back refreshed and better able to concentrate!!

It's the information about you—your hobbies, your photos, your rants and raves—that's available on the Internet through personal websites, profiles on popular social networking sites, and comments on blogs. What you—and certainly your teenagers—might not realize is that employers are reading what's out there and it many cases it can derail your job prospects even before you're called for an interview.

Company Leaders Are Spending More Quality Time With Customers

When Intel made a bid to become the microprocessor supplier for Apple's new Apple TV, Chief Executive Paul Otellini told his top engineers they needed to make some swift design changes.

Intel's microprocessors, which the company had begun supplying for Apple computers in 2005, met performance specifications but their traditional packaging had to be thinner and smaller to fit Apple's small set-top box that connects TV sets to a computer or the Web.

He heard grumblings that this change wasn't possible -- at least not anytime soon -- but Mr. Otellini pushed ahead. "Instead of saying no, we can't, let's say yes and figure out how," he recalls telling his senior team members. He won them over and soon had a new packaging design to show Apple, which chose Intel as its supplier.
