Today
marked the beginning of midterms of the summer term. Many students had an Ops
exam or QA exam and the BGGE midterm is coming quickly. We are almost halfway
through the summer term, hard to believe, but true! "Success
has a price tag on it, and the tag reads courage, determination, discipline,
risk taking, perseverance, and consistency--doing the right things for the
right reasons and not just when we feel like it." --James M. Meston
Registration
materials for Fall 2007 have been emailed out and AARC will open for
registration on Monday, June 4th. If you have not already done so, please check your
registration priority on AARC to see when you can begin registering. If
you have not received the materials please email Paula at paula.donaldson@simmons.edu. This
week we had a fire alarm at the SOM in the 411 building on the 5th floor due
to some burning popcorn in the microwave. I need to remind all students that
when these alarms sound, you need to leave the building, regardless of what
you are doing. These are old buildings and most of you were not around when a
building on our street caught fire a few years ago. The fire spread through
that building in minutes and did major damage. We are told that the time span
that we have to get out of the building in a real fire is less than five
minutes. Do not assume it is a false alarm and get your friends to leave with
you. We have a lot of faculty, staff and students in these buildings all the
time and we need everyone following the same protocols. Your
safety is unbelievably important to me and I need you all to understand how
serious it is when these alarms sound.
Voting: First round of voting is
open in Zoomerang for graduation speakers, marshals and the Pat Miller
Leadership Award. Cap and Gown orders and Data sheets for diplomas were due
this week. If you have not submitted your form, please get it to Paula ASAP! 1st graduation meeting change in
the day program: Due to the large number of students taking evening strategy,
we are only going to have one meeting on June 20 for graduation. Mary D will
do a follow-up meeting on June 25 at noon with any day students unable to
attend the June 20 meeting. SOM Students in the News Nandini Kalyanasundaram
represented the SOM at the Trustee dinner on last Friday, where a Beth Evers represented all
students who have received scholarships from the SOM by writing a letter that
was printed in the Leadership Conference program. All proceeds of the
conference go directly to fund SOM student scholarships. |
