Prepare for Daylight Saving Time
Due to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Daylight Saving Time (DST) has been extended. Last spring, DST started 3 weeks earlier than in the past. This fall, DST begins on Sunday, November 4 (1 week later than DST had ended in the past). The new DST rule is that DST begins on the second Sunday in March, and ends the first Sunday in November. These changes affect systems, like computers, that keep track of time.
This page has been prepared for the Simmons community to provide an overview of what we have done at Simmons, and what steps you may need to take to prepare your own equipment for the time change.
Simmons Systems and Computers
All Simmons Windows and Macintosh computers have been updated with the new DST rule: the time will change automatically; you do not need to do anything. All centralized systems and servers, such as Datatel Colleague, Meeting Maker, Windows File and Print Services, and Email have been updated and are in compliance with the new DST regulations. All hosted servers, including discipline-specific academic systems, and departmental administrative systems, have also been updated.
Your equipment
- Your computer
(It is especially important for you to update your computer if you keep an electronic calendar)
- Your handheld device (i.e. Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile, etc): it is critical that you follow these instructions if you synchronize with Meeting Maker
For more specific information, please consult the manufacturer of your equipment.
