Safe Computing

What are you protecting?

  • Your term papers, assignments, personal documents, electronic financial records, etc.
  • Your passwords to online financial accounts like Paypal or your bank
  • Credit card numbers stored in online shopping accounts or entered during a shopping transaction
  • Your friends: if you get a virus or worm, then you could infect your friends' computers.
  • Your Internet connection: if your computer is compromised, it could slow down the entire Simmons network, and result in your connection to the network being blocked.
  • Your reputation: file sharing of copyrighted material could lead to legal action against you, or violate campus policies resulting in your facing the Honor Board or even expulsion.

Practice Safe Computing at Simmons

Stay out of trouble

The motion picture and sound industry is quite serious about going after copyright violators (often file sharers, e.g through Kazaa), which have included college students. Simmons has a number of policies and procedures that it is important all students understand and follow. Please see Technology Policies & Procedures, and Technology Student Responsibilities.
