Cable Info
1. How do I sign up for cable?
On the residence campus, and two off-campus sites (1025 and 1047 Beacon), cable is automatically enabled before the start of each semester.
2. How much does it cost?
Cable is available at no charge for on-campus students in Simmons Residence Halls, and for residents of 1025 and 1047 Beacon St.
3. How does it get turned on?
Cable is automatically activated before the start of each semester.
4. Do I need to have a special TV?
No, any reasonably modern TV will be cable-ready, just connect it to the right cable jack and program your TV for cable rather than antenna input and the right channels. If you plug your TV into the cable outlet and only receive 13 channels, it may be that your TV has not been programmed to receive the entire cable signal being sent to your room. If this is the case, you will need your remote to "tune" in the remaining channels. If you do not have a remote, you will have send your cable through a VCR or DVD player that will automatically tune in the remaining channels. Simmons will provide limited phone or email assistance with this process.
Residents of 1025 Beacon Street: there is a cable box in your room. Attach the cable from that box directly to your television.
5. What kind of cord do I need to hook my TV to the cable with?
The cord needed is called a coaxial cable. You can buy one at Staples, Best Buy or Radio Shack. It is the student's responsibility to place the TV in position and screw the ends of the cable into the wall and the back of their TV. Simmons will not assist with this process beyond help over the phone.
6. What channels do I get?
There is a standard set of channels available for students living on the residence campus (see below). It is not possible to get additional channels, such as premium or high-definition channels, even for a charge.
Residents of 1025 Beacon receive the standard Brookline residential line-up. Residents of 1047 Beacon receive a line-up designated by the building owner. It is not possible to get additional channels, such as premium or high-definition channels, even for a charge.
