Technology for Students at the SOM

Throughout the SOM, there are computers for you to use, loaded with software you need for your coursework (see the list of software installed on general access computers).

General Access Lab

There are six computers and a black and white printer in the General Access Lab on the first floor of 411 Commonwealth Avenue. In the adjacent Oval Dining Room, there is one computer, and a color printer.

To print to any of the SOM printers, you will need your Simmons ID card. All students receive 350 free printouts, with 50 bonus pages for misprints. For more information about printing at Simmons College, see Printing Policy and Tips. You can also check your print quota or add value to your Simmons ID online.

At times throughout the day, Technology Desk staff are available to assist you with software questions, printing, and borrowing equipment. The hours they can be found in the lab are:

• Monday-Thursday: 7:30-9:30 am, 11 am - 1 pm, 4-6:30 pm
• Friday: 7:30-9:30 am, 11 am - 1 pm
• Saturday: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

If staff are not at the desk, they are likely checking a room or setting up media equipment for an event, and will be back shortly.

Express Web Stations

In addition to computers with the full Simmons software suite, there are two Express Web stations in the lobby of the Mockler Building, for quick Internet/email access.

Visit our wireless page to see where you can access the Simmons College network at the SOM. For help with your computer:

• consult the Technology Help Desk web site,
  
• download free antivirus software; visit Disinfect and Protect: Free antivirus and other tools for safe computing
  
• or attend a Self-Help Clinic. Clinics are occasionally held at the SOM.
